About the event
We are gathering for more life affirming conversation over tea/coffee and cake at our 6th Death Cafe here at Te Whenua Retreat, and hope you can join us.
Death Cafe is a worldwide phenomenon that began in London in 2011, with the objective of 'increasing awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'. Since then there have been more that 16,000 Death Cafes around the world.
At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and experience and participate in a group directed discussion around death. Far from being morbid, the discussions are lively, free flowing and safe.
Death Cafe is a not-for-profit organisation, and this event is free to attend. We will be offering tea, coffee and some delicious home-made baking for koha donation.
Please arrive from 10.30am for tea & cake, and the Death Cafe will run from 11am to 12.30pm.
Death Cafe gatherings are 'group-led', meaning the conversation is directed by the participants of the group on the day. Death will always remain a mystery and there are no real answers, explainations or advice that can be held on to - but sharing conversation makes the mystery more manageable. Death after all is the one thing that unites all of humanity.
