About the retreat
We are gathering for more life affirming conversation over tea/coffee and cake at our Death Cafe here at Te Whenua Retreat, and hope you can join us. This week, 1-7 Sept, is 'Dying Matters' week, and there are a number of local and national events happening to encourage people to talk more openly about death, in all it's numberless facets.
Death Cafe is a worldwide phenomenon that began in London in 2011, with the objective of 'increasing awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives'. Since then there have been more that 19,000 Death Cafes around the world.
At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and experience and participate in a group directed discussion around death. Far from being morbid, the discussions are lively, free flowing and safe.
