About the event

On Monday evenings from 7pm to 8pm you are warmly invited to join us for meditation.

In April (8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th) we will be offering some instruction for those new to meditation, and for anyone who would appreciate a refresher or additional guidance and support. Over these four weeks we will cover posture, setting an intention, and basic guidance for practising the first foundation of mindfulness - mindfulness of breath and body - plus have ample time to practise in silence.

The style of meditation offered is known as Insight Meditation, (or vipassana) and was taught 2600 years ago by the Buddha, and is the root source of modern mindfulness practises.  It calms and focuses the mind, enabling one to see more clearly, (ie have more insight) into our own habits patterns as well as the nature of the world we live in, and of mind itself. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.

No previous meditation experience necessary and all are welcome. There is no requirement to attend each week. Please come as suits you.

Suggested dana (koha) $5 per week, but please do not let financial hardship prevent you from joining.

Following on from this series of 4 classes, we will continue to offer this space for silent meditation on Monday evenings across the year.

Looking forward, there may be occasional guest teachers and we may also run a further linked-series of classes to focus on a subject that interests the community of practitioners, such as loving kindness meditation, and Insight Dialogue. We will update the class descriptions as we go along.
