About the event
‘A day with a difference’ - Neurodiversity affirming retreat.
In te reo Māori, the word used to describe autism is takiwātanga, meaning ‘his or her own time and space’.
This one-day retreat is for Neurodivergent adults, parents, caregivers and professionals eager to connect with like minded people in a relaxing and nourishing environment.
Why are we offering this?
Neurodivergent people often feel like they live in a world that doesn’t accept them for who they are, and that in order to be accepted, they must mask their true identity. The detrimental toll of this is huge on our overall mental and physical wellbeing. This retreat has been created, to empower those people, and create a space where being who you are is not only accepted, but encouraged. There will be opportunity to discuss and participate In a diverse range of topics and exercises , such as what is neurodiversity, neurodiversity affirming language, what adaptions are helpful in schools and workplaces, the overlap with mental health, the pros and cons of diagnosis , and a brief overview of executive functions. We will also include time for reflection, both group and 1.1, group meditation, and nutritious food - all whilst being surrounded by a peaceful and tranquil retreat environment . The day will have no set hierarchy or expectations, and you will be invited to participate at a pace that feels good for you. Our hope is that you will leave feeling empowered, refreshed and connected. Please feel free to make any requests as to how we can make this day, content or environment a good experience for you- accommodations or preferences for discussion are welcomed.
We look forward to seeing you there!!
